Introduction

Welcome at Perpetual Root, a portfolio of stories, faces and ideas. I hope to inspire you to be an active part of your community and engage with others to build a better society, for everybody.

My articles will cover a broad range of topics, from climate change to child welfare, but the common thread will be investigation and research. I believe the main duty of a journalist is to tackle societal issues, put them in the spotlight and propose valid solutions, which should lead to policy improvements. This does not mean that my writing will only expose the ugly of our society. On the contrary, my focus will be especially on examples of ‘good practice’, those cases of success that can inspire others to follow the path.

I also introduced a photography section of the portfolio. This is a quite unexplored field for me, but I am keen on learning more and practicing. My idea is to produce collections of pictures of the places I am most familiar with, as either my home country or countries where I lived. The purpose is to be able to provide the perspective from within: pictures that portray the vibe of a city and the souls of its inhabitants.

To conclude, I think it’s time for a short bio. I was born in Milan, Italy, but I moved to the Netherlands two years ago to study at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. In Rotterdam I met the most diverse group of people, who now are my best friends and my family. My experiences abroad have made me eager to know more about cultures and places. Curiosity and creativity are the two forces pushing me towards journalism and photography.

I have started my writing career with the jEURnalist, an amazing blog written by students of the Erasmus University. Now, after one year, I’m still working with them (actually, I’m in the board of the blog), but I decided it is the time to start publishing on my own too. I’m very excited to begin this new adventure and see where it will lead me.
